Oh day off, how I love thee!

I didn't have to work today.  It reminded me of the good ol' days when I was unemployed... waking up around 10, eating breakfast that *gasp* doesn't consist of a chewy granola bar as I drive (while trying my hardest to avoid the snowy/icy patches with one hand on the wheel), watching Martha,  surfing the net, showering (okay, I do shower everyday, but I miss the leisurely showers), putting make-up on, going to Target (I know you missed me!), and vacuuming.  There's nothing more satisfying than freshly vacuumed carpet.  But don't get me wrong, I'm thankful to have a job!  It's just nice to have a day off every now and then.

I decided my project for today was re-organizing our bathroom vanity cabinet and our master closet.  I was sick and TIRED of fighting with my socks everyday.  I had a wicker laundry basket in the closet that was full of my socks (both everyday socks, and fuzzy house socks), and sports bras*.  Every night when I laid out my clothes for the next day, I would have to search through that stupid basket for a pair of socks that matched my outfit.  This method was just not working as that basket was way too big and too full, so while searching, half of the socks would be knocked out onto the floor, thus resulting in me cleaning up a pile of socks every night.  This may not seem like a big deal to most of you, but if you know me, you know that sleep is pretty important to me, and this sock situation was really cutting into my sleep time.  I wanted to go back to the system I had in NC with TWO sock baskets, one for fuzzy socks and sports bras, one for socks I wear out of the house.  But I one-upped myself... I now have three sock baskets:  the big wicker one for the fuzzy socks/bras, and two smaller canvas totes - one containing only socks that are predominantly black or gray, and one for all other shades of the rainbow.  I'm pumped.

Well, in order to make shelf space in the closet, I needed to reorganize the space under the vanity so I could put my yellow Tupperware stores-a-lot box full of nail polish under there.  It was already pretty organized, but wasn't making the best of all of the vertical space available, so I bought some pretty new teal blue stacking containers and now have space to spare, even with the nail polish down there!  Organizing is so fulfilling!

See, aren't they beautiful?

I'm off tomorrow too, and I'm going to ShurTech's annual awards show, The Duckies (clever, right?).  Steven gets to lip sync a song about tape, set to the music from "Anything You Can Do" from Annie Get Your Gun (You know, "Anything you can do I can do better, I can do anything better than you")It's pretty funny.  Good thing the show is in the afternoon, because you know I'm not missing my morning no-work routine.

*Some of you might be wondering why I keep my socks in the closet anyway, seeing as how most people keep them in a dresser or chest of drawers.  Well, the reason is, my SHOES are in the closet, so doesn't it make sense that my socks be in there too?!  I don't have time to go back and forth getting my socks out of the chest (see importance of sleep, above).  In a perfect world, I would have a closet large enough to keep my underwear, bras, and all the rest of my clothes in the closet, so it would be a one-stop shop.  Chest of drawers would be a thing of the past.  I seriously daydream about this all the time.
