Whoops... mistaken lyrics

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

One thing I've noticed about myself is that I don't think too much about song lyrics I only really listen to music in the car (it's been quite a process updating the file info on all of my mp3s, which I insist on doing before I update my iPod again), and normally it's just on in the background and I'm not really listening that closely to it, always thinking about something else. I realized recently that a lot of the lyrics I thought I knew (and had been singing for months, years in some cases), were not actually correct. See my mistakes below...

Iyaz - Replay

Correct Version:
Shawty's like a melody in my head
That I can't keep out
Got me singin' like
Na na na na everyday
It's like my iPod stuck on replay, replay-ay-ay-ay

My Version:
Shawty's like a melody in my head
That I can't keep out
Got me singin' like
Na na na na everyday
It's like my eyeball stuck on replay, replay-ay-ay-ay

It didn't click with me until weeks after the song came out that maybe "iPod" made more sense.

Jason Mraz - I'm Yours

Correct Version:
Well you done done me and you bet I felt it
I tried to be chill but you're so hot that I melted
I fell right through the cracks, now I'm tryin' to get back

My Version:
Well you done done me in your bed I felt it
I tried to beat you but you're so hot that I melted
I fell right through the cracks, now I'm tryin' to get back

I think my first line makes perfect sense, but if that had been the second line, Jason Mraz would have probably been brought up on attempted assault charges or something. How long has this song been out now? Yeah, I just realized the correct lyrics about 2 weeks ago.

Carrie Underwood - Before He Cheats

Correct Version:
Right now, she's probably up singing some
White-trash version of Shania karaoke
Right now, she's probably saying "I'm drunk"
And he's thinking that he's gonna get lucky
Right now, he's probably dabbing on
Three dollars worth of that bathroom polo
Oh and he don't know... OH!

My Version:
...
Three dollars worth of that bathroom co-logne
Oh and he don't know... OH!

Steven still makes fun of me for this one because yes, I sang it "co-logne" and didn't think anything about it.

This doesn't really have to do with lyrics but I just realized that the group I thought was called Holland Oates is actually Hall + Oates. Whoops!
