Stupid Product: Lysol No-Touch Hand Soap System

Wednesday, June 9, 2010

I've been seeing this commercial for the Lysol No-Touch Hand Soap System.  There are similar soap dispensers in most public restrooms now.  In theory, I think this is great.  You know, stop the spread of germs and all that.  Believe me, I wash my hands and use Purel more times in a day than I can count.  But, if you think about it, you only touch the soap dispenser when you are preparing to wash your hands.  Therefore, the number of germs on the soap dispenser is irrelevant.  If you wash your hands according to published guidelines (use warm water, apply soap - either regular or antibacterial makes no difference, wash for 20 seconds, rinse, dry with clean towel), then any germs you would have encountered on the soap dispenser are thereby extinguished.  Unless you just go around touching random soap dispensers without the intention of washing your hands (in which case, please buy the Lysol No-Touch Hand Soap System), then this product is unnecessary.

Touch-Free faucets on the other hand = Genius!
