Bears are going back-to-school with Crystal!

I thought I would use the title of this post to tie the following random topics together... did it work?  If not, at least it got your attention!

Check out this articleThere is a bear roaming our neighborhood in NC.  A BEAR!!  Makes me glad we're living up here.  I definitely don't want to run into a bear while I'm out checking the mail, that's for sure.  It's been terrorizing the neighborhood for a few weeks now.  Apparently its habitat in the mountains is being taken over by people and it's seeking refuge in the foothills.  And no one's doing anything about it!  I don't know why the wildlife officials aren't trying to catch it and relocate it.  We live in a highly residential area... not exactly out in the country!  I just hope it decides to go back home before it eats anybody else's pets (not kidding!).

I can't believe it's back-to-school time already.  There's no other time of the year that makes me miss school more.  I love back-to-school shopping.  There's nothing like the smell of new school supplies to ignite excitement for the upcoming school year.  Oh and don't forget new school clothes!  I pretty much remember what I wore on the first day of school every year.  An awesome outfit is so important for making a good first impression.  I probably wouldn't be friends with my friend Emily were it not for the green floral shirt and shorts combo I wore on the first day of 3rd grade at a new school.  She thought I looked like the most awesome person she had ever seen (okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a tiny bit) and volunteered to show me around the library.  Crazy to think that I've known her for 16 (*gasp*) years now.

While we're on the subject of making friends, let me tell you a little story about how I became friends with my BFF Crystal.

I was part of a secret club in 5th grade with 3 other girls called the "World Explorations Club".  We had a club house (in my friend Michelle's* back yard), a briefcase to keep all of our important documents, and each member of the club was assigned a position.  I was the secretary, Suzy* was the president, Michelle was the VP, and Kristin* was... treasurer, maybe?  The details are a little fuzzy.  Anywho, Kristin and I were really good friends, and one day during Language Arts we started arguing about something to do with the club.  Crystal sat beside Kristin and I sat closer to the end of the row, with a few people between me and Crystal.  Kristin and I stopped talking to each other, but would send messages back and forth via Crystal.  Eventually, I wanted nothing more to do with Kristin and me and Crystal became BFFs.  I don't think I'd ever really talked to her before the Kristin argument because we were all new to the school.  (A new elementary school was built and kids were re-routed from 3 other elementary schools to make 4 feeder schools into our high school.  So at the start of 5th grade, I had to switch schools again.  I knew some people from my previous school, but 2/3 of the people were new to me.  But we all reunited in 7th grade at the middle school, so it wasn't that big of a deal.  Anywho...)  Kristin became BFFs with my arch-nemesis Caitlin*, but eventually moved away in either middle school or high school.  I would tell you about Caitlin but I'm friends with her on Facebook, so there's a slim chance she could find the link and read this, so I will abstain.

*Names have been changed to protect the identities of people I haven't talked to in 14 years.

And just to give you guys an update, my grandmother is doing a lot better, but please continue to pray for her... she's not out of the woods yet.

Look for Things I Love 26-50 tomorrow!
