Random Tuesday (but at least it's not Monday!)

Tuesday, September 7, 2010

I have a few things on my mind today, so I apologize in advance for the randomness.

You've Got Mail is one of my all-time favorite movies.  It was on the WE channel this weekend and I had it on in the background while I was working on my quilled monogram.  I was reminded of a quote from it today, which perfectly describes my mood.  "What should I have said, for example, to the bottom-dweller who recently belittled my existence?  Nothing.  Even now, days later, I can't figure it out."  I am just like Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan).  When faced with a nasty or rude person, I completely blank and can't think of anything nasty and/or rude to say back.  In fact, it doesn't even occur to me that I should have said something until much later.  Actually, I don't even realize something nasty or rude was said until the moment has passed when I could have said something back.  I tend to think the best of people and really and truly believe that no one could possibly intend to be nasty.  Maybe it comes out the wrong way, maybe they're having a bad day, but whatever the reason, surely they couldn't be a nasty person all the time.  Plus, I'm extremely non-confrontational.  If I had been quick on my feet and thought of something to say in the moment, who am I kidding, I probably still wouldn't have said anything.  I'm a nice, quiet person, and I avoid drama at all costs.  Most of the time, I enjoy being the way I am, but sometimes I wish I could be a little less Meg Ryan and a little more Tom Hanks.

Okay, enough of that.  While Steven is out of town this week, I get to watch the news in the morning while I'm getting ready for work.  I don't usually get to watch anything because he doesn't wake up until after I leave.  So, anywho, this has been bothering me for a while, but I noticed it again this morning... It grates on my last nerve when newscasters call the President of the United States "Mr. Obama."  No, he's President Obama.  It's not all the time, but I hear that way more than I ever remember hearing it in the past, and I pick up on it instantly.  I think it's so extremely disrespectful and it makes me want to turn the channel if I hear someone say that.  And no, I didn't vote for him, but he's still the PRESIDENT and deserves that title placed in front of his name.  Is it just me, or is that really annoying?

And now for the third and final piece of randomness:  Steven walked into our workout room at our house in NC this afternoon and what does he find but a dead MOUSE!  EEEEEK!  So glad I wasn't there or I would have freaked out for sure.  Thing is, the door to that room was closed and there's no space for something to get under the door, so the mouse had to enter somewhere in that room.  Thankfully, that narrows the point of entry down.  Why are basements always filled with critters?  I don't think I've ever killed a single bug in our upstairs, yet there is always some creepy crawly thing downstairs and I feel like I have to watch everywhere I step and everything I touch the whole time I'm down there.  Word to the wise: NEVER go down without slippers for fear of something running across your feet and ALWAYS look at the lightswitches before you flip one on.  Okay, in the interest of full disclosure, nothing has ever actually come close to my feet unless it was my foot stomping on it, and I've never come across a creepy crawly on a switch plate, but these are the two things I am always so afraid of.  I don't deal well with spiders.  I realize that I've made our basement seem like we're trudging through the set of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids every time we go down there, but really it's not so bad, I just let my imagination run away with me.

Hope you all had as interesting a Tuesday as I did!

  1. 1st of all - I believe that most time the people who DO address the rudeness or nastiness are just that. RUDE OR NASTY. Turning the other cheek is much more tactful and respectful. Yes, it hurts. I did tell someone to kiss my ass this year and it felt real, real good. (This was after months and months of putting up with her crap)
2nd of all - I agree with you about our current President. His name is President Obama!!! It tick's me off when I hear otherwise.Maybe we should write a letter to the networks about it. (much less confrontational) :)
3rd of all - Why did you think your NANA wear those slippers all her life? Dummy! Nana learned early on to keep those feet covered.
Love ya and miss ya. See you soon,
