The quest for the perfect pair of boots...

Thursday, October 28, 2010

I'm sure most of you are on a number of mailing lists.  It seems every time you create a new account on a Web site or do anything online, you end up getting bombarded with all kinds of things.  Gmail has an excellent spam filter (if you don't have Gmail, seriously, what are you waiting for?), and I could mark them as spam or just unsubscribe, but I actually enjoy receiving coupons from Borders, daily crafts from Martha Stewart, and sale notices from Kirkland's.  However, American Eagle probably e-mails me the most.  While I might delete the others without reading them (or in the case of Martha, file them away in my "Martha" folder for future reference), I always open AE's to see what they have to say.  Yesterday, this one popped up in my inbox:

I was like "Yay!  I need some sexy boots!"  So I clicked on the link in the e-mail and it brought me to this page:

These are their sexiest boots?  While they might be comfortable, I wouldn't under any circumstances call them sexy.  Would you?  Extreme disappointment inevitably set in.  I desperately need an affordable pair of black knee-high (or a little shorter) flat boots (and please not in the Ugg style, gag me*).  I don't want heels.  The leg part can't be too short or too tall.  I would prefer leather (or faux leather) over suede (or faux suede).  I just want a pair for everyday.

*Please forgive me if you are an Ugg lover.  I understand the need for comfort.  What I don't understand is why comfort has to look like you're wearing your bedroom slippers to the mall.

So where do I turn?  Shoebuy.com.  The most awesome shoe web site ever.  Have you been there?  If not, you should really check it out.  The prices are unbeatable.  Plus, you can always find a promo code at retailmenot.com for an additional percentage off.  Anywho, they only had 48 pairs that matched my criteria.  That may sound like a lot, but when looking for other types of shoes in the past, I had to scroll through 20+ pages, compared to just 2 this time.

For $36.99, this one is a definite contender, but it's faux suede which just makes me nervous.

If Uggs alone weren't bad enough, add a little fringe and you can buy this pair for the bargain price of $299.95!

These are really cute, but I'm looking for something a little more... plain.

Overall, I have been extremely disappointed in the boot selection in stores (and obviously online) this year.  But it always seems to go this way with me and shoes.  I looked for the perfect pair of black closed-toe wedges for three years before I finally found them.  Does that mean I'm picky or that stores just aren't catering to my needs?  Anyway, wish me luck as I continue my quest for the perfect pair of boots (although now I'm seriously considering that faux suede pair... hmm...).

  1. I got that email too. I don't think they're "sexy." It's more like COZY.
