Pillows 4 Ways: Ruffled Trim

Friday, April 13, 2012

Welcome to another installment of...

Today, I'm sharing with you guys my mostest favoritest pillow, which also happens to be the easiest.  I've never sewn any sort of trim on, ever, yet I made this pillow in about an hour.  So I know you can too!

The following is based on measurements for a 14" x 14" pillow.

You'll need:
Fabric cut into three pieces -
14.5" x 14.5" (front)
14.5" x 11" (envelope back - top)
14.5" x 7" (envelope back - bottom)
2 yards of store bought trim (I got my ruffly yellow stuff at Hobby Lobby for $2/yd)

On the two back pieces, iron and sew a seam on the 14.5" side using 1/2" seam allowance.

Feel free to use a decorative stitch if you want.  I just love this greek key stitch.

Next, lay out your pieces, cutting the trim to the proper length and pinning between the front and back, right sides together.  For the envelope back, I laid down the short piece first, then the longer piece, overlapping them until they were the same size as my front piece.

Now sew all the way around!  No need to leave a hole for turning as we have our handy dandy envelope back!

With my ruffle trim, I had a part at the top that wasn't ruffled.  I tried to feel it as I was sewing along, making sure I was sewing on the right side of my ruffle.  I stuffed the pillow cover with a 14" pillow form I picked up a HobLob and voila!

I am just so proud of the envelope back.  It turned out so cute!

Have a good weekend lovelies!  I'll be back Monday with the final two pillows and the reveal of my newly pillowed sofa!
