Flowers and an announcement!

Friday, November 16, 2012

If you remember, last weekend I hosted a dinner/baby shower for my friend Emily.  I wish I had taken a photo of the whole tablescape (#badblogger) but I did manage to snap some of the flowers the next day.

I'm a big fan of poms.  In fact, every time I go to pick out flowers, they somehow end up in my cart.  I always buy flowers at the grocery store or Sam's Club so the options are relatively limited.  These are readily available and I love how much space they take up in a bouquet (bigger flowers = less $).  I love using one type of flower in an arrangement, but incorporating different colors adds some variety while still looking cohesive.

Oh, and I haven't even changed the water and these flowers still look like this today, a week later!  Love that.

I also picked up some daisies and plopped them in a Fiestaware pitcher.  "Daisies are the friendliest flower."  Name that movie!  One of my all-time faves.  I think of it every time I buy daisies.  If they're good enough for Meg Ryan, they're good enough for me!  :)

I don't know why I don't buy flowers more often.  I guess because they seem like an indulgence to me, but they make me oh so happy every time I walk into the kitchen.  That's gotta be worth the $12, right?

Or maybe it's because I'm a flower snob.  I do all of my grocery shopping at Walmart and their flower selection is pretty pitiful.  Those daisies that are dyed fluorescent blue, pink and purple are just not for me.  It's either that or roses, and I really can't stand roses.  Sorry to all the rose lovers out there!  I'm much more of a daisy, calla lily, dahlia type of gal.

Now onto the announcement.  Are you ready?!

Steven and I got a puppy!  She'll be four weeks old tomorrow so she's still with her mama, but we get to bring her home the first week of January.  She's a yorkiepoo (half yorkshire terrier, half poodle) and just about the cutest thing ever.  I've wanted a yorkiepoo for as long as I can remember so we finally just decided to go for it.  I don't know what our cats will think about the new addition, but hopefully they'll be fast friends (or at least tolerate her!).

Meet Sadie!

I mean, how can you not love that face?
