Christmas Mantel!

Monday, December 3, 2012

Hi friends, hope your weekend was fantastic!  I finally finished sewing our new stockings (come back tomorrow for all the deets) so I'm ready to show you our 2012 Christmas mantel.  Come on in and have a look around...

The mantel top got a light dusting of snow, with a few white, natural, and silver accents.  A prickly little reindeer, a white IKEA candlestick, Target stocking holders (2 years ago), white milk glass vase (thrifted) with silver sprigs (Hobby Lobby), and a birch candle (possibly my new favorite thing, from Target).

I used this tutorial to make some paper bag flowers.  I only had enough bags to make 3 flowers, but as soon as I pick up some more, they will probably be popping up all over the place!  It literally took less than 10 minutes to make each one and I think they are so darn cute.

I'm in a simplistic kind of mood this holiday season.  I'm sticking with a burlap, silver and white theme in the living room and dining room (with a few dashes of red thrown in for good measure), and I have to say, I'm loving the more understated look.  I've yet to get Steven on board with this less traditional color scheme, but that's okay because he has the basement for all of his red, green and gold needs.

Here was our more traditional Christmas mantel last year.  I still love that lighted garland and our embroidered stockings so don't worry, they found a home (say it with me) in the basement.

Have you ever succumbed to a nontraditional color scheme?  I had the same mantel (above) and Christmas tree for 5 years straight, so needless to say, I was ready for some change.

Coming up tomorrow:  how I made our Burlap and Silver Bow Stockings.

Later this week:  painted burlap pillow covers, an easy DIY gift idea, and our dining room tablescape.  Yay Christmas!

Linking up with Layla...

...and Michelle.

  1. I love the flowers!! They look great with the other colors! You could probably make a garland out of them too--I really like them!

  2. I think anything burlap just screams "Christmas"! And I'm glad to see another person with a tv over their mantel. The flower is a nice touch--wish I had done that! Maybe next year...
