A Toddler Rocking Chair Makeover

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

Do the dumbest things ever keep you awake at night?  I woke up at 5:30 this morning to use the bathroom, and when I laid back down for another hour of sleep, I thought "Oh no, I didn't put any straightening creme in my hair last night."  If I want to wear my hair straight, I usually take a shower and blow dry my hair the night before, so all I have to do in the morning is get up and flat iron it.  Well, last night I apparently forgot one crucial step in the process and I have paid for it with a bad hair day.  Seriously, you should see the flyaways and general frizziness I have going on today.  Not a good look.

Anywho, I have a simple little makeover for you today!  I found this toddler-sized rocking chair on Craigslist a few weeks ago and paid $10 to make it mine.  Remember our antiques booth?  I know I haven't blogged about it all that much, but it's still going strong (we changed locations and are doing SO much better where we are now).  I'm trying to add to our inventory when I can  and thought this little chair would make the perfect addition to a kid's room.  It just needed a little TLC.

I sanded it down and gave it a coat of blue spray paint by Valspar (I don't know the name of the color but it's a true navy blue, in a satin finish).

I happened to have some CUTE mustache fabric in my stash (does anyone else raid the remnant section at Hobby Lobby and buy fabric that you have absolutely no use for because it is SUCH A GOOD DEAL?!  this was one of those.  but hey, it paid off this time!).

I worried about making this chair too boyish, but I think if I had found a gender-neutral color and fabric, it wouldn't have been nearly as cute.  Don't you agree?

I just love it.  Now let's hope someone else thinks it's as cute as I do!
