Basement Bathroom Upgrade

Friday, March 8, 2013

We have a full bath in our basement, complete with a tub/shower (that has no tub faucet... why??), a too-small vanity, and a toilet that threatens to eat my bum every time I sit on it (seriously, why is the toilet bowl so LARGE?).

When we bought this house, this bathroom had crap-tastic linoleum, the vanity was honey oak with brass knobs and a brass faucet, and it had a teeny tiny medicine cabinet that barely fit my whole head in the mirror.

We replaced the linoleum with neutral tile, painted the vanity black, changed the fixtures to chrome and added a larger, framed mirror.  That was really the end of the remodel.  I have plans to paint this bathroom WHITE, and replace the curtain rod and rings with fancier versions.  I would LOVE a new, larger vanity for this room, but the fact of the matter is, it's just not at the top of my priority list.  In fact, I don't think it cracks the top 20.

So, in order to fill that dead space between the too-small vanity and the toilet, I picked up this cute little shelf at IKEA a few weeks ago.  It was $20, took 5 minutes to assemble and fits the space to perfection.  I wish I could remember the name of it, but darn those Swedish monikers!

This room still isn't winning any style awards, but I think it's a step in the right direction.

I filled the shelves with game room appropriate stuff: photos of us in ASU frames, random Chicago Cubs toys, bathroom necessities, and Steven's poker tournament awards.

Perhaps I will break out the leftover paint from when I painted below the chair rail upstairs and knock this bathroom out one weekend.  Maybe.  We'll see.
