A Sterling Great Room

Monday, April 22, 2013

Hello hello!  I know I promised a craft room update today (hopefully to come later this week), but we were busy bees this weekend and spent all day Saturday painting!  We planned to do it in phases, but once we got going, we figured we might as well finish it.  Let me just preface this post by saying that, while the after photos are so much better, photos in general do not do the new color justice. It just looks so good that I can't get over it!

Enough chit chat, let's get to the eye candy.

Before:  Cliveden Sandstone by Valspar

After:  Sterling by Benjamin Moore (color matched to Pittsburgh Paints)

Before:  Blah and boring beige
No offense if you love this color - we did too, for the first 5 years we lived with it.

After:  So much lighter and brighter.

After:  Bye bye empty frame gallery wall!

Ignore the "after" on this photo - I stole it from the post about my mail desk.

And now!
Yes, I took down all the plates and patched the holes, not knowing what I would replace them with.  As luck would have it, I found the PERFECT thing at a flea market yesterday.  If you follow me on Instagram (@jenna2027), you got a sneak peek. :)  Stay tuned...

Before:  Hotel Carl Tan by Valspar.  This color wrapped around from the dining room to the kitchen.

Now the whole great room is the same color and I couldn't be more pleased!

Hotel Carl Tan blended in with the cabinets in the kitchen and I just never loved it in there.

Now the cabinets pop!

After we had been painting for a while and could really tell what it would look like, Steven said "Well, it does look better with the white than the tan did."  I just grinned and he said "I'm onto you."  I said, "What do you mean?" "You wanted to repaint the walls so you eased me into it by just painting the bottom, then waiting a few months and bringing up the top."  Gah, he thinks I'm manipulative, doesn't he?  ;)

But I think everyone will agree... these walls were always meant to be Sterling.

Oh, and in case you're looking for the perfect gray, I have to tell you that I'm pretty sure Sterling is it.  In the morning, it's a true light gray, but in the late afternoon and night, it has a tinge of blue in it which I LOVE.  I nixed any samples that leaned toward green because mama don't do green, but blue... blue, I can do.

  1. The gray looks so good, Jenna! And your decorating choices are all-around awesome! Love your style!

  2. Jenna, this is a gorgeous gray! Your rooms look stunning! :)

  3. That is a very pretty gray. It actually seems to brighten things up, which I wouldn't think a gray would do (living in the Seattle area I think CLOUDS). Thanks for sharing and blessings to you, Patti

  4. It makes a huge difference! Love the color. Your house is adorable! I'm dying over your cute state pillow. Can't wait to look around your blog!!!

  5. Loving the new color! gray can be a funny beast! I had one that looked lavender... was not a fan.

  6. What a gorgeous color...thank you for sharing! I'll have to try that one out now!
