I confess: I'm a perfume hoarder.

I have a thing for perfume.

Exhibit A:

I knew I had quite a few fragrances, but when the idea for this post popped into my head and I actually pulled out all of my perfume, I was amazed at just how many I have!

I'm not sure exactly where my affinity for perfume comes from.  I don't feel the need to wear it everyday.  In fact, I probably only wear perfume about half the time (mostly because I'm in such a rush in the morning that it's a wonder I even get deodorant on).  But, every time I smell a new scent that I like, it immediately goes on my Christmas/Birthday wish list, which is how I've amassed such a collection.  I didn't buy any of these fragrances for myself because it just seems like such an indulgence!

I'll go through my perfume collection from oldest to newest, providing descriptions and my personal thoughts along the way.  Who knows - maybe you'll find a new scent to try!  (The links I've provided are not affiliate links, but all link to Amazon.)

Description:  A refreshing and energetic floral, with notes of sandalwood and heather.
Thoughts:  My aunt and uncle gave this to me as a gift several years ago (5+).  It can be mighty strong so I only wear it when I want my scent to last a while or I'm just feeling nostalgic.

Description:  Lucky You is a light summery fragrance you never get tired of wearing. Ruby Red Grapefruit & Crushed Leaves create a fresh, breezy aura while Blue Poppy & Star Jasmine infuse an elegant femininity.
Thoughts:  I asked for and received this for my 18th birthday and wore it every.single.day for the next 2 years, during which time I met Steven.  He absolutely loves this scent because it reminds him of the time when we were just getting to know each other.  I only break it out for special occasions now, and when he smells it, he says "Lucky me." ha!  I consider it my signature scent and I think it's almost time to get a new bottle!

Description:  This designer fragrance is a refreshing blend of flowery aromas.  It has notes of Italian Mandarin and Orange French Guinea blended with citrus zest, water lily, orchid and yellow freesia.
Thoughts:  I've had this one since middle school, when I was obsessed with it!  Curve was all the rage in middle school and early high school, so every time I smell it now, it reminds me of my awkward years. :)  I don't really wear it at all anymore, but I like to smell it and wax nostalgic every now and then.

Description:  A modern floral blend wrapped in a soft blanket of suede, sensual musk, and sleek woods. Classic, timeless, elegant - it's the way you live your life. Notes: Kumquat, Lime, Tangerine, Bulgarian Rose, Nectarine Blossom, Orange Blossom, Violet Leaves, Gardenia, Jasmine, Tuberose, Hedione, Magnolia, Patchouli, Suede Note, Woods, Skin Musk 2000, Heliotrope, Benzoin, Vanilla. (Wow, that's a lot of scents!)
Thoughts:  I smelled this fragrance for the first time in a magazine and fell in love with it!  Steven bought it for me for my birthday in 2005, I think.  It's so refreshing and elegant, as the description says.  However, I didn't realize until I was looking for a link for this post that RL Style is discontinued!  If you want to buy it now, you'll pay over $100 - wowza.  It's really like nothing else, though, and I love it!

Description:  Notes of American Apple, Cucumber, Grapefruit, Candid Magnolia, Tuberose, White Muguet, Rose, Violet, Sandalwood, Tender Skin Accord, Blonde Woods, White Amber.
Thoughts:  Whoa, talk about strong!  Use sparingly.  My aunt passed this along to me because she was allergic to it.  The packaging is cute, but the spray nozzle squirts instead of sprays, so it's hard to aim it where you want to and you usually end up with more than you bargained for!  I would suggest spraying it on your wrist and then rubbing it into your neck.  It's really bright and fresh - a perfect scent for summer.  It will last all day and into the next, and if you don't wash your shirt after you wear it, you'll still smell it the next time you put it on.

Description:  Clinique Happy in Bloom provides fruity notes of apricot and frozen fruit, announcing the floral heart of freesia and mimosa flowers. Floral notes are surrounded by a gentle veil of mysterious incense accompanied with sophisticated woody notes.
Thoughts:  One of my favorite summer fragrances!  This one was also a gift from Steven sometime in college, although I don't remember when.  I usually put this one on for casual days - shopping, errand-running, etc.

Description:  Clinique Happy is a fragrance of joy, the essence of a sunny, happy morning. Wear Happy and be happy! Fresh apple, plums and bergamot mixed with the fresh-air accord as top notes proceed into the egzotic floral heart composed of freesia, lily, rose and morning orchid. Musk and amber are in perfume's base.
Thoughts:  I use this one and Happy in Bloom interchangeably.  They're both light, bright, and perfect for summer!

Description:  A marvelous blend of almonds, limes and pears, with soft florals and vanilla.
Thoughts:  I received this one for Christmas several years ago.  I wear it mostly in the fall and winter as it's a heavier scent.  Not long after I got it, the metal piece that locks the cap in place broke off, so now the cap just spins around and doesn't stay on.  It's annoying.

Description:  Fragrance notes: peach, apricot, sandalwood, cedar, amber and musk.
Thoughts:  My in-laws got this fragrance for me Christmas 2009.  I had asked for Burberry Brit, but they accidentally got me Burberry instead, and I have to say, it was a welcomed mistake!  I love this scent, and wore it almost as long as Lucky You.  I think I wore it the whole time we lived in Ohio, so now when I wear it, I think of the kids I nannied up there.  Even now, when I just smelled it, it brought back memories.  It's another heavier scent so I wear it mostly in the winter.  It's probably my second favorite after Lucky You.

Now for my two newest scents!

Description:  A moment of mystery inspired by this enchanting blend of sparkling Nectarine, sultry Amber and exotic Orchid.
Thoughts:  I received this one this past Christmas and it smells sooooo good.  I love it!  My main complaints about it are the packaging.  The atomizer is cute and all but gets clogged and doesn't spray out enough perfume at a time.  I feel like I have to douse myself to even smell it.  Also, this scent doesn't last that long.  After a couple hours, I can't smell it anymore.

Description:  A charming and sparkling surprise of vibrant fruits, kissed by a bouquet of soft petals and a touch of sweet indulgence. The flawless beauty of freesia, apple blossom and raspberry spark a swirl of vibrancy and feminine allure. In the heart, a sweet surprise of blissful vanilla is embellished by airy, sun drenched honeysuckle and white hibiscus. Notes of golden amber and sandalwood are woven with a kiss of lush peach.
Thoughts:  I received Wonderstruck Christmas 2011.  It smells fab, but again, complaints about the packaging!  I don't like that's it's not transparent.  I don't know why that bothers me... I guess because I like to see how much I have left.  This is another scent that doesn't last that long.  In fact, after I spray it on and it disappears into the air, I don't smell it again for the rest of the day.  Maybe other people can smell it but I can't, therefore I only wear it when I want a super light fragrance.

What's your favorite fragrance?  Do you go for perfume, eau de toilette, body splash or lotion?  I don't normally read descriptions of fragrances before I get them, so putting this post together was eye-opening - apparently I like scents with notes of amber, musk, and sandalwood - who knew?

  1. Hey Jenna, my favorite fragrance is Coach- Poppy. I also love Paris Hilton -Tease. These are the only two I have and anytime I wear them I get asked what I'm wearing and that it smells wonderful. So maybe put those on your list next time to try....:)

I REALLY want to try Wonderstruck. I've been tempted to buy it. I love Taylor, that's reason enough for me:)

  2. My favorite is Vera Wang Princess, but I also really love Warm Vanilla Sugar from Bath and Body Works. I have gift sets that I've been working on using for years!!
