a long overdue construction update and the final timeline for completion

Monday, December 7, 2015

Y'all, I am so sorry.  I didn't realize it'd been over 2 months since I'd done a construction update.  My bad.

Needless to say, the house has come a long way since then!

The exterior is nearly complete (except the porch columns (which will be white and pyramid-shaped), and the landscaping of course.  A red dirt front yard isn't exactly the look we're going for.

The concrete porch floor was poured months ago but has been covered up with plywood since then.  It's nice to finally see it again.  It's a grey stamped concrete made to look like flagstone (except a LOT cheaper).

The two story foyer is probably my favorite part of the entire house.  I can't wait to decorate it with a new runner I scored on Black Friday and some black picture frames.  I have it all planned out in my head!  Kind of.  (The black stuff on the windows below is just tape.)

Sorry about the fuzziness of the next picture, but I had to include it anyway!  The glass shower enclosure went in last week and I LOVE it.

It's super hard to get a straight on shot of the master vanity (I need a wide-angle lens!), but the next few photos give you a general idea.

If you've been around here for a couple years, you might remember that these mirrors used to hang in the living room of our last house (see them here) and I scored them for $15 a piece at a flea market.  Best decision I ever made because it's like they were MEANT to live in this room, don't you agree?

I already bought a little tabletop mirror to sit in the middle for when I'm sitting there doing my makeup.  Words can't express how excited I am about that!

One more shot of the shower and tub.  We opted not to do a seat in the shower because we had one at our last house and NEVER sat there.  I'm talking about never.  And it was a pain to keep clean.  I do have a little ledge in the corner for shaving and a niche in the wall for shampoo but that's it.

Oh, and we have carpet.  We opted for a nicer carpet pad and it is so comfortable!  The subtle design is a nice feature that you don't notice right away but looks a little more premium.  Also, if anyone wears shoes on my carpet, they better be prepared to incur my wrath.  I'm not even kidding.  :)

I take way too many photos of this next angle of the living room, but I can't help it.  It's my favorite view in the whole house.

S1 decided that we needed a new TV because our other TVs are so old that they would be embarrassing hanging above our new fireplace.  Whatever, I got some new rugs so we called it square. :)

Look, finished stairs, handrails and some cutie sconces!

I've shared a few photos of the kitchen on Instagram (follow me: @jenna_lovelakeliving), but I think this is the first shot I've shared on the blog (what is wrong with me?!).

This was the other day when the cabinet guy was doing some finishing touches, hence why the island is protected with a moving blanket.  But, look at my kitchen, y'all!  I'm constantly pinching myself to make sure this is real life.

Here's a close-up of the backsplash.  So pretty!  The color is truer in the photo above... it came out a little dark here.

Oh yeah, and we have a massive walk-in pantry.  I would have to do some major grocery shopping to fill this thing up (we make do with about 2 shelves of food storage at our apartment).  I think it will be nice to actually be able to stockpile, though!  I've always wanted to be the type of person who has enough food in the house to make any kind of meal at anytime.  As soon as we get a stand-alone freezer, I'm going to become the next Pioneer Woman. *one can hope*

My favorite room in the house is also the smallest: the powder room.  I can't wait until the vessel sink is installed.  It's really hard to get a decent photo of this room because there's no natural light, but trust me, it's like a warm hug.

I love how the subcontractors are making use of our mud room hooks already.  It will be so nice to have a place to hang S2's jacket and put her shoes.  Right now, her shoes are stored in her toy drawer thingie in her room.  Yeah, not the most practical place to put them.

Speaking of S2, her room looks completely finished from this angle!!  We've ordered blinds for all the windows so we won't have to worry about night-creepers.  :)

Okay, so a little update on the timeline.  The final coat on the hardwoods is going on today.  Final walkthrough for paint touch-ups later this week.  House cleaned inside and out early next week, then appliances delivered toward the end of next week.  And that's it.  We're DONE.  Except for the landscaping.  That will start soon, but I don't know when, and probably won't be finished before we move in but I don't even care!!  We're going to start moving some stuff on the 18th and will move stuff here and there until Christmas Eve, which will most likely be our first night in the house... unless we get superhuman powers and can get the house livable before then.  By livable, I mean S2's crib, a mattress for us, a Christmas tree (obviously), some food and a duffel bag full of clothes.  We will be camping in our house until the day after Christmas, when the moving will really get cranked up.  So, who wants to help us move?  Any volunteers?  Anyone?  No?

Be sure to stop by tomorrow because I have some cute holiday gift tag printables for you!  (and there may be a fun announcement as well...)
