my belated valentine.

My dear sweet girl,

My how the years are flying by!  This Sunday you will be TWO years old.  When we ask you how old you are, you say "TWO" very authoritatively but when you hold up your fingers, you show us 5.

You love applesauce, cheese puffs, M&Ms and basically just snacking in general.  You're a very good eater but no sooner do you finish dinner than you're asking for a "nack."

You don't have many opinions about what clothes you wear {yet} but you must be wearing socks.  And so must everyone else.  Oh and you love your shoes and jackets (anything from an actual jacket to a vest or a robe or pajamas that zip like a jacket).  You don't like having your hair washed or combed, but I have managed to put it in a ponytail a time or two, now that you're finally getting some hair.

You keep us on our toes, always wanting to be up and doing something.  You love peek-a-boo, or as you say, "peekapeekaboo."  Making potatoes and cookies in your play kitchen is a favorite pastime, as is sweeping and vacuuming.  You're our little domestic goddess. :)

When you're in a new situation, or around new people, you get a very stoic^ look on your face.  After 15 minutes, you warm up and are back to your normal self.

For Halloween this year, you were a black cat and it was the cutest thing I'd ever seen.

Anytime our kitty, Abbie, walks into a room, you have to announce her presence loudly, "Abbie!"  Then she usually runs off. :)

We moved into our new house this year and you LOVE going up and down the stairs, sometimes a little too fast for your own good.  There's an unfinished room at the bottom of the stairs where we have some of your toys and you love just going in there and running around.

You say so many words now that I've lost track of them all.  You've recently started stringing short sentences together, like "Mama all done" when I make a happy plate at dinner, or "Daddy at home" when I ask where Daddy is, no matter if that's actually true or not.

People say you're starting to look more like me, which I think is true (finally), but you still have a lot of your daddy in you.

When we get home from work/school every day around 5:30, you can hardly wait long enough for me to make dinner.  We rely on quick, easy meals most of the time.  You love rice and chicken nuggets and peas and green beans.  The other night, you and Daddy were playing in your room while I was fixing dinner and we kept telling you that it was almost ready, but when you heard the microwave ding (from heating up the tortillas), you ran in the kitchen straight to your high chair, saying "Eat! Eat!"  You make us laugh constantly.

Keeping you entertained in stores is always a challenge.  You never want to ride in a cart, always preferring to run around on your own.  You're pretty independent in general.  "I do it!" is a favorite phrase.

You've brought so much joy and happiness to our lives.  Your little personality shines through more and more all the time and we just can't believe how fast you're growing and changing.

You're our little angel and not a day goes that I'm not just beyond grateful for getting to be your Mama.

My hopes and dreams for you could fill volumes, but just know this:  Mama and Daddy will always stand behind you, lifting you up when you're down, celebrating all of life's big moments, and loving you unconditionally.

So, my sweet belated Valentine, happy 2nd birthday.  You are the light of our lives.

xo,
Mama
