the home tour: part 1

Monday, February 1, 2016

The day you've all been waiting for has finally arrived!  Okay, maybe that's a wee bit of an exaggeration, but I know I'm excited!  This is just part one - the kitchen, living room, dining room (office), and mud room.

Just know that even though our build is complete, our house is far from finished.  I haven't even begun really decorating, things are just hanging out willy nilly.  So consider these photos the official befores.  Although I don't think there can ever be "after" photos, since we live here and will always find a way to change something to make our home more beautiful and suitable to us and our changing needs.

Oh and also, we plan to live here forever, so we've got time. :)

I'll try to list out sources below each photo to the best of my ability, but if you have a question about something, leave it in the comments and I'll try to respond!

My favorite thing about the kitchen is all the different sources of light: in-cabinet, under-cabinet, barn lights, pendants and recessed lighting.  It's so pretty at night especially.  Here's a handy gif. :)

If you follow me on Instagram, you may remember that I asked for opinions on if the barn lights over the windows were too large.  The consensus was yes, and I totally agree, but unfortunately they're staying for now.  I've gotten used to them so they don't bother me as much and don't really look that large in photos, so I'll deal for the time being.

The pantry is a hot mess and for that, I am sorry.  There is so much storage though - I promise to share it again when I get it organized.

Door on the left leads to the garage, door on the far right is the powder room and door next to the bench is the laundry room.  I can't tell you how nice it is to finally have a proper drop zone.  I didn't stage this photo at all - this is what it currently and always looks like.  I already had the baskets above - how lucky that they fit so well.  Eventually I'll fancy up this room a bit, but for now, I'm just glad to have it!

I'll do a separate post on the mantel and shelf decor.

A view from the other side of the living room (I'm standing in the foyer here).  I didn't take a photo of the window wall straight on, so I'll share that soon.

You can see the front door and foyer in the background below, to give you a sense of the layout.

The wall in this photo below is where I'm thinking about doing a family photo gallery, as mentioned here.

So this room is technically a dining room, but we don't really need a formal dining room at this point, nor do we have a table to go in here, so we're making the space work for us as an office.

Okay, that's all I've got for now!  I have a ton more to share so stay tuned for part 2.
