This fall has been SO different. I’m sure you all can relate.
No tailgating.
No fall festivals.
No hay rides.
No trunk or treat.
But there’s one thing that’s the same – my girls are celebrating Halloween in coordinating costumes. 😆
Maybe when R can voice her own opinion about her costume, things will change, but for now, I LOVE dressing them alike. S2 told me a long time ago that she wanted to be a witch and I didn’t even question it. A witch – now that’s an easy costume.
I’ve mentioned it before, but it bears mentioning again – I do not like cheap store-bought Halloween costumes. I’ll make one exception for Disney Princess dresses because we dress up in those all year. But the cheap, velcro-back whatever-it-is… NOPE. I don’t do it.
First, they’re pricey.
Second, they’re so cheaply made.
Third, they LOOK cheap. And I like my kids to look cute at all times. 😂
So, what I typically do is either raid their closet (or purchase, if needed) solid color clothes that I can build a costume around (but then they’ll still wear the clothes in their normal life after Halloween). In this case, they each just needed a solid black dress, which they both already had. DONE.
R’s headband and leggings were hand-me-downs from S2, so I just bought her the spiderweb cape, from Amazon. And she needed a pair of black boots anyway, so I bought those, from Target.

For S2’s costume, I got the purple velvet cape, witch hat and spiderweb tights from Amazon. I also bought her the black boots, but like R, she needed a pair of boots anyway and she’ll wear them continually through the winter.
The broom is a Halloween decoration I got from Michael’s like 10 years ago. It makes the perfect witch accessory. As do the apples, which we brought along on our photoshoot from… wait for it… the fridge. 😜
For S2’s makeup, I looked up some ideas on Pinterest and we went with a spiderweb eye (I just drew it on with black eyeliner) and a black lip (using Halloween makeup I got from Amazon). For actual Halloween day, we’re going to paint her face green, but I wanted these pics to be cute so we left the green off. 🙃
Also, can we just pause a minute and marvel at the trees that serve as a backdrop for these photos? They line this road, which runs through a graveyard, and every fall, I take every opportunity to drive through here. It also helps that this is on the way to S2’s school, so we usually take the “shortcut” through the graveyard.
So that’s it, my girls’ Halloween witch costumes this year. Simple and DIY, without having to do any DIY projects. 😝
