We recently did a room switcheroo at our house. The baby really needed to move into her own room (and out of our room!) but she’s still not sleeping through the night consistently, which meant that the girls sharing a room was a no go. So S2 moved into her permanent big-girl room downstairs, Baby R moved into S2’s old room, and we got our room back, hallelujah!
I really wanted S2’s new room to grow with her, still be young and fun like the 5-year-old she is, but sophisticated enough that it doesn’t scream “little girl.”
Initially I was having a hard time nailing down what exactly that meant. Pinterest searches for “girl room” were basically showing me variations of pink and gray rooms. No bueno. One afternoon, the answer hit me – whose style do I really like, either via blog or Instagram, that gives me the vibe I’m going for?
Immediately I thought of The Handmade Home. I clicked around on their blog archives and came across the master bedroom at their old house. DING DING DING. The & art and the purple Turkish towel were the catalysts that this room was built on.
So, here’s the big girl room mood board I put together as I found things that fit into the general aesthetic I was going for!

I think it strikes the perfect balance of sophisticated, yet still fun and girly. Lots more accessories and art to figure out, but I promise to share a peek at the room REALLY soon!
