Hiya friends!

Listen up. If you have been waiting for 2 years for your husband to hang shiplap in your living room and you’re tired of waiting, I have got a HACK for you!

On one random trip to Target, I happened to notice the Valspar line of peel-and-stick wallpaper, Devine Color (why is autocorrect capitalizing Devine every time I type it? Is that some kind of proper noun that I don’t know about??). I sauntered over to have a look-see and almost fell out in the floor. They had a white shiplap pattern! Immediately I grabbed two rolls (spoiler alert: I needed 3 and had to order the 3rd online because when I went back to get it, they were out of stock in my store – so buy more than you think you need!!) knowing exactly where I wanted to put it.

These two niches above the built-ins in our living room have been calling for some attention since we moved in. (Ignore all that mess in the foreground, this was right after Christmas and it takes FOREVER to get the crap put away, amiright?)

Today in my Instagram stories, I’ll post a timelapse of hanging the wallpaper on the left side. (If you’re reading this after 24 hours, I’ll save in my highlights under “Shiplap”) It was really easy, but helpful to have two people. On the right side, I was doing it by myself, so I just cut smaller, more manageable pieces, instead of trying to go top to bottom in one piece. You can’t tell where the pieces meet unless you really get up in there (please don’t come over to my house and inspect my wallpaper, mmkay?).

The hanging process took maybe 1.5 hours per side, split over multiple weekends and nap times, when I had a few minutes to devote to it.

For some reason, this wall is SO TRICKY for me to photograph. I think I need a wide-angle lens. Anyway, sorry for the distortion, but you get the idea!

I’m pretty proud of how straight and non-wrinkly it is, personally. 🙌🏻👏🏻😜

The final plan is to add round mirrors with a thin black frame over the “shiplap.” These niches had to be extra-deep to accommodate our surround sound stuff (beautiful, isn’t it? see below photo), which causes them to be very shadowy and dark. By adding the white shiplap and then a mirror, light will bounce around and make these deep niches come out into the room a bit!

This wallpaper is textured, even the horizontal lines are recessed into the paper a little bit, which I think makes it look very authentic. For a few hours of time and minimal expense, I think this upgrade is 💯.
